Papa Palace

Papa Palace dates back to the XVIII century but it preserves interesting traces which go back to the XIV and XV centuries. It was at first property of Cerutti family, then it was owned by the doctor Gianfranco Papa who owned architect Rodolfo Vantini’s 1833-34 project, commissioned by at that time owner Pietro Cerutti.
Architectural elements which recall that period for example are columns with country foliated capitals which scan the portico, terminal half pilasters and round ceilings.
A small staircase which led to the first room, was partially destroyed during the Second World War in 1944.
The first room shows a neoclassic decoration: walls are painted with light and dark contrast, panels which depict art, music, trade and farming. The second room shows a neoclassic decoration with grotesque medallions (Dante, Omero, Virgilio, Orazio). The third one always shows a neoclassic decoration, embellished by small medallions. The ground floor shows a small living room with XVI century and neoclassic elements. The lozenge-shaped floor is cotto tile.
