SACRI TRIDUI

The Sacri Tridui are three days dedicated to prayer for the dead, which Lonato del Garda has commemorated every year since far-off 1828, when the Tridui machine was inaugurated. Mounted at the centre of the altar in the Basilica of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, the spectacular Sacri Tridui machine will light up again this year, with an extraordinary visual impact. The apparatus reaches a height of 16 metres above the apse floor and is the result of a design by Leonardo Manzati: a triumph of angels, rays of light, candles, candelabra and golden friezes that for three days accompany the prayers of parishioners in suffrage of the dead. The machine envelops and overhangs the entire high altar, where a luminous ray welcomes the Blessed Sacrament.
