The column of San Marco
The column of San Marco, at the top of which is a winged lion with an open book, is located in the main square of the town in front of the Town Hall.
It is the symbol of the Serenissima Republic of Venice which ruled Lonato from the mid-15th century to the end of the 18th century, for almost 350 years uninterrupted.
The Marcian column, before 1924, was located in the place where the war memorial was erected, work of the sculptor Luigi Contratti.
