Lonato in Festival

11/8/2022 - 14/8/2022 7.00 pm
Lonato Castle
Lonato in Festival, now in its tenth edition, offers from 11 to 14 August a rich calendar of shows en plein air and confirms itself among the main Italian events dedicated to contemporary circus, with the presence of important national and international companies. Four days of wonder, fun and amazement for young and old alike are guaranteed!

The festival formula has been tried and tested by now. Since 2013 it has been proposing to the public, with a simple and immediate language, various artistic forms and cultural contents capable of dialoguing with each other and with the evocative historical container, the Rocca Visconteo Veneta of Lonato del Garda (Brescia), one of the most imposing fortresses in northern Italy, from which one can enjoy an incomparable view of the lake.

In the large and evocative open-air spaces of the Rocca and the park below, street artists, contemporary circus and figure theatre companies, and musicians perform from 6.30 p.m. to midnight. A large space is dedicated to children's entertainment with games and shows suitable for the youngest audience.

The magic of DekRu, the Ukrainian mimes
There is great anticipation for DekRu, a quartet of well-known and talented Ukrainian mimes founded in Kiev in 2010, which won awards at the Moscow World Circus Festival and the Odessa Festival of Clowns and Mimes. Their show 'Anime Leggere' has already been appreciated in numerous countries around the world, including France, Polynesia, Tahiti and New Caledonia, as well as in Russia and Ukraine.
It is an elegant and strongly evocative show, with a succession of very evocative paintings and a hint of subtle humour. As if by magic, a fascinating marine world, full of curious fish and plants, appears before the spectators' eyes, followed by a romantic love story between two living statues and the multiform universe of the circus: lions, acrobats on a trapeze, jugglers and a jubilant audience, for a journey into the realm of fantasy in the company of these exceptional virtuosos. At the end of the performance, everyone is left with the feeling of a delightful and entertaining dream from which they will not want to wake up.

Prestigious companies and artists
One of the most important presences at the festival is the El Grito Circus, recognised by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and perennially on tour in the most important squares and festivals in Europe. Its name carries its international component, as it was in fact founded by the Uruguayan acrobat Fabiana Ruiz Diaz and the Italian multidisciplinary artist Giacomo Costantini. In Lonato it presents 'Uomo calamita', a show of contemporary circus, illusionism, music and literature, written and directed by Giacomo Costantini. Between reckless acrobatics, drum beats and surreal magic, the voice of Wu Ming 2 guides the spectator through a story between history and fantasy, that of a clandestine circus during the Second World War. And then Bustric (stage name Sergio Bini), who writes and performs shows in which he mixes various techniques, from sleight of hand to pantomime, singing and acting, in a narrative rhythm that fills his stories with surprises, of funny and unexpected things) and Francesco Sgrò (among others, founder of the Collective 320chili and the circus school for children 'Fuma che'nduma', artistic director and performer of acrobatic performances, guest director and artistic coach of the Codarts Circus School in Rotterdam).

Puppets, marionettes, acrobatics
Magical for children and adults alike are the 'female' glove puppets of Bologna-based Nasiinsu (Sandra Pagliarani and Stefania Rosignuolo) and the string puppets of the professional Prague company Karromato, and to be followed with bated breath by the acrobatics with their incessant rhythm and strong visual impact that combine circus theatre and comedy by DuoPiGreco (a contemporary circus company born in 2020 from the collaboration of two friends Alessandro De Luca and Matteo Antonucci, acrobats specialised in the Chinese pole). Among the other entertaining shows on the programme are "Trick Nick" (a picnic based on "tricks", or tricks, in which Andrea Farnetani, involving the public, creates poetic and surreal moments using simple everyday objects such as balls, newspapers, glasses, spoons balloons), BandaStorta Circus (a "soufflé" of music and laughter, which involves the audience in musical peripeteia and fast-paced gags), Wunder Tandem (two voices, an accordion and a mini drum set give life to a musical pastiche that cheekily and ironically mixes the most disparate genres).
