The Church S. Antonio

Via Sant'Antonio

The church of the XV century proves the worship to the Saint Antonio, protector of the animals.

This architectonical complex and the organisation of the interior are the consequences of the works made in the centuries: from the bell tower to the central nave finished in 1601.
In the XVII century the Church was given to the Confraternity of the Suffragio that realized the Chapel of the Suffragio (after the entrance on the left).
The high altar is beautified with bas relieves of baroque plasters. Behind the apse we can see still today the ancient road that led from the town centre to the cemetery, through the Venetian walls and the woods.
Every 17th January, festivity of Sant’Antonio, it celebrates a strange function: the benediction of the animals.
