The church of Santa Maria del Corlo
Square Corlo
The church has fourteenthcentury origins and in 1505 it was given to the Confraternity of Disciplini that beautified it, built the bell tower (1676) and established an hospital since the year 1600.
The facade is adorned with a sixteenth-century portal that opens over big stairs, where we find the real entrance of the church, three meters higher than the road plan.
The nave has a vault decorated in the baroque period with perspective techniques and allegorical figures.
The part inside shows also wall decorations with frescos (the most ancient frescos date back to the XIV century and came from the previous church). On the left opens the Chapel of San Michele Arcangelo done in 1595 by the painter Pietro Marone from Brescia, where we can admire an interesting depiction of the Crack of Doom.
The vault of the presbytery is entirely adorned with baroque plasters and decorations by the brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Gandino.
Of great beauty is the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, work of wood sculpted by Valentino Bolesini and painted by Pietro Bagnadore (1550-1627).
