The City of Lonato del Garda is ready to take a leap into the past and live a 100% Roman experience, on the occasion of the historical re-enactment scheduled for Sunday, 23 April 2023, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the archaeological site of the Fornaci Romane.
This initiative is promoted by the Municipal Administration and the Culture, Tourism and Events Office, in collaboration with the Associazione Confraternita del Lupo di Montichiari, a group of medieval historical re-enactment. Through customs, fashions, combat techniques, and war tools, they re-propose the way of life of the 2nd century in the area.
What we will relive on Sunday 23 April is the Augustan phase, a period of great historical change: it is the period following the death of Caesar and new civil conflicts between the oppositions begin to appear. This historical passage also affected Italy a great deal, and Brescia in particular has always been of great interest to the Romans, and the finds on our territory bear witness to this.
The Roman kilns of Lonato were created precisely as a consequence of the Romanisation of the Garda area, an area rich in clay, water and timber, the three fundamental components for the construction of dwellings and anything else. In fact, this is a unique archaeological site, dating back to the 1st-2nd century A.D., halfway between Brescia and Verona, and is one of the six furnaces of a vast artisan complex for the production, as mentioned above, of bricks necessary in the first phase of the Romanisation of Lake Garda.
During the day of Sunday 23 April, it will therefore be possible to visit the interior of the kilns, through guided tours for which no booking is necessary, but groups of interested parties will be managed by the staff on site.
The programme includes the opening of the historical camps at 10:00 a.m., a time that will also start the educational activities for children.
A day dedicated to history and fun, because throughout the day children will have the opportunity to attend the archery workshop and go on a discovery tour of historical finds accompanied by a professional archaeologist.
For all those who want to fully enjoy the experience, it will be possible to book their "battle view" lunch through the Lonato Info Point. By calling +39 03091392226 or sending an e-mail to info@lonatoturismo.it, it will be possible to book your seat and enjoy a 100% "themed" menu, up to a maximum of 150 seats.
Those who are unable to book their themed lunch will still have the opportunity to purchase food and drinks on site and experience the historical camp.
A free transfer service will also be provided, departing from the King multiplex car park and arriving at the Fornace, and vice versa.

Le Fornaci Romane A unique archaeological site: a Roman kiln dating back to the 1st-2nd century A.D., located in the lower part of Lake Garda, halfway between Brixia and Verona. It is one of six furnaces of a vast artisanal complex for the production of bricks needed in the first phase of the Romanisation of Lake Garda. Clay, water and timber: three elements necessary for the existence of this craft complex, certainly present in the area of the morainic amphitheatre of Lake Garda, elements so important that even in the 14th century, a kiln was still producing bricks in this area.
La Confraternita del Lupo of Montichiari It is a group of medieval historical re-enactment enthusiasts. Through customs, fashions, combat techniques, war tools and instruments of common use, we re-propose the way of life of the 13th century. An era rich in inventions and innovations in human history, covering both aspects of civil and military life.
